BTEC Level 2 in Engineering

Cadets in the Sea Cadet Corps, over 16 years of age* and with an interest in engineering, are now able to earn a vocational qualification equivalent to 4 GCSEs (grades A*-C), or 4 Standard Grades (levels 1-3), with no additional work outside of the Sea Cadet marine engineering syllabus. And best of all, it’s FREE for cadets!

The BTEC Level 2 in Engineering (Maintenance) programme has been designed to develop aspects of knowledge, understanding and competency, to provide a better understanding of engineering as a profession. It combines both mechanical and electrical knowledge with practical elements of engine maintenance and fault diagnosis. The required knowledge and practical elements needed to meet the criteria can be achieved by following approved courses of instruction in all levels and modules of the Sea Cadet marine engineering syllabus.

*Working towards the award can begin before the age of 16, in accordance with current SCC rules on minimum ages.

Upon completion, cadets will have demonstrated an understanding of the mechanical and electrical aspects of internal combustion engineering maintenance, based on safe working practices.
