RAFA branch chairman, Syd Graham organised the open day. “We wanted to invite RAFA branch members from across the North-East to give them an idea of how their fund raising supports the veterans who live here. But we needed some first class entertainment, that’s where the band from 346 (Tynemouth) Squadron came in.”
Cadet Daniel New said, “Our job was to play and entertain everyone who came to see Rothbury House. But we also helped out with serving tea and cakes, it was great chatting to ex-airman and airwoman, they had some really interesting stories to tell.”
Along with members of the Royal Air Force Association, residents of Rothbury and members of RAF Boulmer all had a chance to listen to the Tynemouth band.
“It’s important that our cadets have the chance to support the Royal Air Force Association in any way we can.” Squadron Commander, Flight Lieutenant Will Close-Ash said. “We all part of the extended RAF family and families help each other out, the cadets really enjoyed the day.”
