Do I need to be able to read music or play an instrument?
You do not have to be able to read music, but be able to play an instrument.
 
What Instrument do I need to play?
Anything! That includes parade bass drum and voice as well as Drum Major.
 
My Unit does not have a band! How do I get involved?
If your Unit doesn’t have a band, don’t panic! Any musical involvement outside of cadets may count. That includes school bands, orchestras, rock bands, and choirs for example. If you have any doubts, contact the CVQO Music Department and they will help you out.

What do I have to do?
Complete a workbook with the aid of a very useful resource book!
 
I’m doing GCSE Music..... Why should I bother?
Because it is worth 4 GCSEs if you complete it and obtain a Distinction, as well as having something worthwhile to show for your work in the cadets.
 
How do I register?
Simple! Just download a VQF1 form, enter your details and blob the music box. Once completed, return to Music Department, CVQO Ltd, 3 Archipelago, Lyon Way, Camberley, Surrey, GU16 7ER through your VQ Officer or Unit Training Officer.
 
What performances can I give as part of the BTEC for Music?
Any performances that you have taken part in, such as County, Area or Wing bands, competitions will also count towards your performances criteria. Parts 1 and 2 of the Workbook and remaining practical requirements may be completed at the convenience of the instructor, there are no deadlines set by either CVQO or Edexcel.
 
Part 3 of the Workbook can only be completed during September - February of each year. If only partially completed or not attempted, it may be re-done the following year when a new one will be issued. Once passed, you do not have to repeat it.
